MEP-Pi is a motion control platform based on Raspbian, the operating system of Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi is an open-platform single-board computer with over 19 million sales and has proven its reliability in many cases. MEP-Pi is a proven Raspberry Pi-based, and is affordable motion control platform that is completed by adding real-time and a variety of libraries to control motion.

MEP-Pi can run powerful motion control algorithms by using Raspberry Pi SBC based on a 64-bit Quad-Core processor. Complex calculations such as working path calculations, kinematics calculations, and robot dynamics calculations for motion control can be calculated at a real-time interval of 1khz, and calculated values can be transmitted through various communication interfaces.

MEP-Pi supports powerful real-time task processing for reliable motion control. MEP-Pi operating system is based on the Fully-Preempt Kernel and can handle the tasks that need to be pre-processed according to the priority.
Extended communications interface.
MEP-Pi offers a variety of communication interfaces, including the fastest and most reliable fieldbus communication technology, EtherCAT, and RS485, CAN and TCP/IP communications. It also provides 24V contactor signal interface, which makes it easy to interface with higher control systems such as PLC systems.

Standardized signal connector specification.
It is very easy for the user to link MEP-Pi with the external system. EtherCAT and TCP/IP communications are interworking by using standard Cat.5e cables and RJ45 connectors, and CAN and RS485 communication can also be connected by using the same standard of cable and connector for the system consistency. However, the CAN and RS485 signals also support Terminal Block at the same time for users unfamiliar with the RJ45 connector, which increases convenience for signal connections.
Isolation function for industrial safety.
The MEP-Pi consists of an isolated system that protects itself from external electrical noise or surge voltage to ensure high stability in the industry. All external signals entering the MEP-Pi are insulated, and entering to the MEP-Pi, and can protect the system from intermittent electrical noise or static electricity.
Intuitive contact signals.
The easiest interlocking method, the on/off signal, is very easily attachable and removable to the MEP-Pi via the clamp connector of the MEP-Pi. The user can check the status of the contact signal in real time through the LEDs that are exposed to MEP-Pi’s case.

MEP-Pi is a very easy and useful platform for implementing motion controller, allowing users to develop their own motion control software by using the C/C++ language. Eclipse-based IDE, which includes code editors and compilers, makes it easy to use and can create own powerful motion control software by using APIs provided for calculation of path generation, kinematics, dynamics, and APIs for real-time task management.
MEP-Pi provides an Eclipse-based code editing environment, the most popular open source IDE.
MEP-Pi provides a SYSPROGS Raspberry-gcc compiler, an optimized compiler for Raspberry Pi.
MEP-Pi provides various APIs for motion control based on the OROCOS KDL engine, which is a powerful motion control library.
MEP-Pi provides specific example codes to understand how to create a basic motion controller for a 6-axis robot arm, starting with the basic concept of real-time control.
